Who We Are
The volunteers in this program are prior patients and caregivers who have experienced the BMT or stem cell transplant experience. These volunteers are invited and screened to become mentors and are specially trained to be empathetic and effective listeners.
What We Do
Volunteers provide emotional support to patients and caregivers going through the BMT or stem cell transplant process - whether prior to transplant, during transplant or following transplant. There are several ways to serve in this program:
- One to one mentoring
- Small group sharing during education classes for patients and caregivers about a stem cell transplant
- Rounding in the outpatient clinic to pass out drinks/snacks and providing emotional support to those wishing to talk
- Rounding in the inpatient units meeting with patients/caregivers desiring emotional support while hospitalized
